What is Systemic Therapy?

Systemic Psychotherapy, also known as Family therapy, helps people in close relationship help each other. It provides a safe space for families and couples to express and explore their emotional language and gives some understanding to each others behaviours by exploring past experiences.

Systemic Psychotherapy explores difficulties that are connected to relationship patterns that have developed over a long period of time and therefore may need more time to change. It is a non- blaming strength based therapy giving space to reflect and strengthen relationships. Systemic Therapy is known empirically to be effective in the treatment with families and couples.

Systemic therapy can help families and individuals to:

  • Better understand how their family functions
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses within the family system
  • Set goals and devise strategies to resolve problems
  • Develop their communication skills
  • Make the entire family unit stronger
